How corruption transformed from an individual deviation into a cultural system defying divine guidance
Corruption is no longer a passing anomaly in our societies—it has become an entrenched system that feeds on silence, flattery, and self-interest. Yet what is even more dangerous than corruption itself is the unholy alliance between the corrupt and those who justify them, between the thief and the silent observer, between the betrayer and the one who beautifies betrayal.
The moral landscape has been so distorted that the corrupt no longer fear shame. They now find advocates who rationalize their crimes, turning sin into “cleverness” and treachery into “social intelligence.” Thus, values are no longer defined by what God revealed, but by what benefits the opportunist.
The Verse We Ignored: Do Not Defend the Traitors
God Almighty says:
“Indeed, We have revealed to you the Book in truth so that you may judge between people by what Allah has shown you, and do not be an advocate for the deceitful.” (Surah An-Nisa 4:105)
Yet, in our modern reality, this verse has been erased from our collective conscience. Defending the corrupt has become a form of “civility,” while silence about wrongdoing is now praised as wisdom. It is as if the Qur’an were revealed for ceremonial recitation, not for shaping human conduct.
When Corruption Became a Culture
-
Bribery became a “gift.”
-
Embezzlement a “reward.”
-
Nepotism a “social duty.”
By manipulating words, we dismantled conscience. Crime became cleverness; morality became weakness.
In such an atmosphere, the corrupt are hailed as heroes—not because they build, but because they “outsmart the system.” A society that glorifies deception kills integrity in its children without realizing it.
The Alliance of Hypocrites and Traitors
Most alarming is that some intellectuals and media figures now excel at beautifying ugliness. They defend the corrupt under the banner of freedom or “good intentions.” The pen becomes a weapon of deceit; the media platform turns into a pulpit for legitimizing moral collapse.
The Qur’anic Cure: Confrontation, Not Compromise
God says:
“If you fear treachery from a people, throw back [their treaty] to them, [putting you] on equal terms. Indeed, Allah does not like traitors.” (Surah Al-Anfal 8:58)
The cure begins with awareness: every individual must realize that to justify corruption, even with a single word, is to betray justice. To flatter the corrupt is not kindness; it is cowardice that nourishes injustice.
Returning to the Divine Path
Conclusion
O Allah, protect our societies from corruption and the corrupt, and guide us to truth and justice in all that we do.
